Introduction to Map Reading

  • Over the Yardarm, Abbeydale Road 335-337 Abbeydale Road Sheffield, England, S7 1FS United Kingdom (map)

Fancy feeling more confident with an OS map in hand? Join us for a map reading social – perfect for beginners or anyone looking to brush up on the basics in a friendly setting.

We’ll cover:
- The grid system – making sense of all those numbers
- Path, road, and boundary symbols – what’s what on the map
- Landscape features – reading contours, rivers, woodlands, access land
- Handy extras – from footbridges to boundary stones and other things to guide your way
- What to look for on a good walk – and what to steer clear of!

Led by Miranda, one of our experienced leaders, this informal session is all about learning together over a drink (or two). No need to bring anything – just yourself and your enthusiasm!

We’ll have room upstairs at Over the Yardarm on Abbeydale Road to ourselves, with use of the downstairs bar. Please note: Good bar snacks are available downstairs but there are no full meals.
