Become a walk leader
Any Ramblers member can become one of our volunteer leaders and lead walks for the group! There are lots of benefits to being a walk leader including entry to regular prize draws, discounts on weekends away, access to the group’s kit library, training opportunities such as first aid courses, and the support of our friendly and experienced group of leaders, who are always happy to offer help or advice!
To become a leader with the group you will need to complete the Ramblers online walk leader training, which consists of three modules taking approximately three hours to complete. This online training ensures all walk leaders have the same level of understanding on how to safely and responsibly lead a walk for the Ramblers. The three modules are:
The Walk Leader Handbook
Walk Leadership Foundations
Preventing and Managing Incidents
As a group, we also run ‘Learn to Lead’ walks which start with map reading skills on an OS map, and the Walk Leader Handbook module of the Ramblers training, before we all head out on a planned route taking it in turns to navigate. You don’t have to wait for one of these walks if you feel you’re ready!
We know it can be nerve-racking to lead your first walk with the group, but don’t worry! You can ask a co-leader for support - our leaders are more than happy to help.
