Full description:
We start from Meadowhall interchange (meeting at the station car park next to platform 2) from where we pick up the TransPennine trail for a couple of miles before heading in the direction of Kimberworth Park and Scholes. We then cross Wentworth Park visiting some of the follies and lakes in the grounds and will stop for our packed lunch somewhere in the park.
In the afternoon we pass the impressive Wentworth Woodhouse and walk through the village of Wentworth where we may have some free time to explore or visit the pub (time dependent). The final part of the walk takes us past Elsecar Reservoir to the heritage centre and the station from where there are regular trains back to Meadowhall and Sheffield.
Please note that this might be a muddy/boggy walk, so sturdy walking boots are advised!
Public transport or car sharing options:
Meadowhall interchange is well-connected by various bus, train and tram options from Sheffield and the wider area.
Return travel: trains twice per hour from Elsecar back to Meadowhall and Sheffield. If driving, either park at Meadowhall station car park and take the train back to your car. Alternatively, park at Elsecar and take the 09.31 train (arrives 09.42). We will wait if this train is late, but otherwise please be ready to ensure a prompt departure at 9.45 to make the most of the day!
