Full description:

Starting from Denby Dale station, this walk takes us through the Holme Valley passing through a number of quaint villages along the way with some great views over the area. We pass through the villages of Shipley and Farley Tyas and will stop for lunch with a view (please bring packed lunch and something to sit on). Depending on time, we may stop briefly at a pub in one of the villages.

The highlight of the walk is Castle Hill tower which has great views over West Yorkshire and beyond (fingers crossed for a clear day). Admission to the tower itself is optional and is priced at £2.60 (payable by cash or card).

After visiting the tower we have a short walk to Berry Brow station where the walk finishes.
Whilst, cumulatively there is 450m of ascent this is mostly across a couple of relatively short and sharp bursts... We will be taking our time on the hill up to the castle!

Public transport or car sharing options:

The 09.35 train from Sheffield arrives Denby Dale at 10.26. Return journeys hourly from Berry Brow. We will aim for the 16:15 (arrives 17.28) but can't guarantee that train as it depends on pace on the day. Cheapest way is probably a return to Berry Brow and not use it for the full journey on the way out.

If driving, suggestion is to park in Denby Dale and take the same train back to your car. Please note the station car park is extremely small so please leave time to park nearby and do so with consideration for local residents. You may also like to explore park and ride options at various stations en route, e.g. Meadowhall, Elsecar, Wombwell.
