Full description:
Starting from Maltby we soon enter the countryside and follow a path to Roche Abbey, a highlight of the walk. We then follow a circular route around several charming villages in the area - Laughton en le Morthen, Letwell, Firbeck and Stone. These are mostly paths across farmland with some on tracks and through woods. We will hopefully have time to stop for a drink at the pub in Firbeck.
We eventually arrive back at Roche Abbey to see this historic site from a different angle before retracing our steps back to Maltby.
Please be aware this walk will be fairly fast paced to ensure we get back before dark! However, the terrain is relatively gentle. This will be a muddy or boggy walk (requiring sturdy walking boots),
If pace means we will be late back, there are options that will make the walk slightly shorter. Please bring a head touch in case we do not finish the walk before it gets dark.
Public transport or car sharing options:
Public transport - bus X11 departs Sheffield interchange at 09.00, arriving at Maltby around 09.50. Alight at High Street / Braithwell Road which is adjacent to the meeting point.
If driving, there is in street parking and car parks nearby but please check for restrictions. An alternative would be to use the free car park at Roche Abbey which would mean the walk is shorter. Please let the walk leader know in advance if you prefer to do this.
