Full Description:
On 17th April, the Peak District celebrates 75 years as England's first National Park and this is just too good an opportunity to pass up for a celebration! Ethel Haythornthwaite, a key activist in behind the creation of the Peak District National Park, saved the beautiful Longshaw Estate from development, so what better place to have our anniversary picnic than in the very Estate she helped to preserve.
Weather permitting, we will walk a short way from Fox House, into Longshaw and have a picnic. This is a BRING YOUR OWN picnic! Sharing is welcomed but everyone must contribute!
Should the weather prevent a full picnic we will retreat either to the Fox House Inn or Grouse Inn for refreshments!
Public Transport or Car Sharing Options:
There is plenty of parking available near the Padley Gorge which is just a short walk from Fox House. Please do not park illegally alongside the road on grass verges.
The number 272 bus is super convenient and leaves the Sheffield Interchange at 17:45 and arrives at Fox House at 18:21.
Sign-up:
Sign-up for this event opens 5 days before the event. If you sign up and can no longer make it, please be respectful of others and remove yourself from the event so that others can take your place. We request you do this ***NO LATER THAN 6pm*** the night before the walk.
Please note:
Sheffield 20’s and 30’s Walking Group is part of the Ramblers, a registered charity. All of our leaders are volunteers. Everyone is welcome to join us on our walks, there is no need to contact us in advance, and as long as you have a place on our Meetup booking system you can just show up. Non-members can come on up to 3 walks before joining the group. After 3 walks, we require you to sign up as a Ramblers member for insurance purposes. More information about the group can be found at https://www.sheffieldwalkinggroup.org.uk/faqs.
