Future walk leaders, we need you! Sheffield 20s and 30s Walking Group is getting bigger and we need more walks in our calendar!
Come along to refresh your map reading skills (or learn some, no previous knowledge is required!), talk all things route planning and how to lead a group of people, then put all that talk into practice out in the countryside.
We will probably start this event with a coffee in the pub: here, we will get out the maps, learn (or refresh) how OS describes the landscape and what it takes to be a good walk leader, and plan a route around the area. We will then head off for a moderate 4-5 miler around Burbage that we will have planned all together!
These Learn-to-Lead walks have the ultimate aim of giving members the confidence to lead (or co-lead) walks themselves. At the end of the day, we will ask you if you are happy for us to register you as a walk leader for our group.
Numbers are restricted to give you maximum support. If you sign up, please make every effort to attend. This event will go ahead even in wet weather.
What to bring:
Please remember to dress appropriately for the time of year, bringing a hat, sunscreen and plenty of water. Bring packet lunch as we will find a spot to eat during the walk (unless it is rainy, in which case we will probably hide in the pub). We will bring maps of the area, but if you have one, please bring along an OS Peak District map (OL1 Dark Peak area) and a walking compass. A waterproof map cover is advised if your map is not waterproof.
Public transport or car sharing options:
Catch 65 bus from Sheffield Interchange at 09:35, which arrives in The Fox House at 10.02 or use the comments on Meetup to arrange lifts. Return rides are with 272 bus at 46' past the hour, we will aim for the 14.46 or 15.46 :-)
