Full description:
If you want an earlier start and a chance to explore Ilkley we will meet at 9.30 for a quick look round then hope to visit Betty's tea rooms for a coffee and a little something before we set off.
The walk itself... A day trip out to Ilkley to visit the moorland made famous by the "Yorkshire Anthem".
After a sharp ascent to wake us up, we visit the cow and calf rock formation, the twelve apostles stone circle and then follow parts of the Dales High Way to see the extent of the moor. We then descend into the village of Addingham before a gentle stroll by the River Wharfe back to Ilkley to find a pub.
Public transport or car sharing options:
07.48 train from Sheffield arrives at Ilkley at 09.30 to give us time to visit tea rooms / shops first. If coming for the walk only, then take the 09.18 arriving at 11.01.
Return journeys are half hourly and take approx 90 minutes. All train journeys involve a change at Leeds.
If driving please allow plenty of time as it's a 90 minute drive according google with no hold ups. There should be parking in the town but it will be pay and display most likely.
Be prepared:
Please remember to dress appropriately for the time of year. A waterproof is always advised, as well as plenty of food and water. Everyone is welcome to join us on our walks, there is no need to contact us in advance, and as long as you have a place on our Meetup booking system you can just show up. Non-members can come on up to 3 walks before joining the group. After 3 walks, we require you to sign up as a Ramblers member for insurance purposes. More information about the group can be found at https://www.sheffieldwalkinggroup.org.uk/faqs.
