Full description: This exquisite and delightful walk begins at Hathersage railway station, nestled in the heart of the beautiful Hope Valley. Leaving the village behind, we follow peaceful paths through enchanting ancient woodland, where dappled sunlight filters through the trees and the sounds of birdsong and gently flowing streams create a wonderfully tranquil atmosphere.
Emerging from the woodland, the landscape opens into sweeping moorland, with its rich colours and expansive views stretching across the Peak District. The path leads us to the foot of the magnificent Stanage Edge, one of the area's most iconic natural landmarks. Its dramatic gritstone escarpment has inspired climbers, walkers and artists for generations and offers a truly unforgettable setting.
As we make our way up to Dennis Knoll, the reward is a breathtaking panorama of rolling hills, patchwork fields and charming villages nestled within the valley below. This is the perfect place to pause, take photographs and simply appreciate the beauty and tranquillity of the surrounding countryside.
Continuing our journey, we stroll across rolling, lush green fields and quiet country paths, passing traditional dry-stone walls and grazing sheep that add to the timeless charm of the landscape. The route offers a wonderful blend of open countryside and gentle farmland, making every stage of the walk a pleasure.
Our adventure concludes with a visit to Hope Valley Ice Cream at Thorpe Farm, where we can relax and indulge in a well-earned treat. Their delicious homemade ice cream, crafted from fresh local ingredients, is the perfect way to round off a memorable day of walking, spectacular scenery and good company.
