We’re going to Scotland! Dalwhinnie marks the western end of the Cairngorms, so this will be an opportunity to bag munroes or simply enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Because this Weekend Away will take place further away than usual, we’ll be making the most of the bank holiday by staying for 4 nights.
Booking opens: Monday 30th March
Price: TBD
Places available: 24
Dalwhinnie is a tiny settlement, which according to Wikipedia is one of the coldest villages in the UK. In May, the weather will hopefully be good enough to scale actual mountains and admire the nearby Loch Ericht. There are good walking opportunities around the lake and following the river Truim. Some of the closest munroes include Carn na Caim, Meall Chuaich and Ben Alder.
Weekends Away are only open to Ramblers members. You will need to arrange your own transport, although the group will try to put people in touch to arrange lift shares. Despite its small size, Dalwhinnie actually has a train station, which has a direct connection to Edinburgh. It’s also on the Sustrans National Cycle Route 7.
We have exclusive use of the small bunkhouse from 16:00 on Friday, but you are welcome to arrive at any time after that. Some people like to travel early to make the most of the day, while others prefer to travel after work. The finish time will depend on how long any walks on Sunday take before returning home. We have to check out of the bunkhouse before 10:00.
