Full description:
Meeting in Bakewell at the Bath Gardens for 10:20, right next to the terminus stop of the 218 bus from Sheffield. Heading west out of Bakewell, we'll follow the river through Ashford in the water, continuing on through the beautiful Monsal Dale valley.
Stopping for lunch at the lovely Monsal Head viewpoint, with an option to head into The Monsal pub for a drink. We then go into the highlight of this walk, a passage through the longest section of disused train tunnel on the Monsal trail. Please note this is around 400 metres of tunnel, so bear this in mind if you're not a fan of underground spaces!
This walk will be on established footpaths and some minor roads, however down by the river it can get slightly muddy and slippy, please bring good boots.
Public transport or car sharing options:
The 218 bus leaves Sheffield Interchange at 09:10, ride to the terminus at Rutland Square for arrival at 10:10. There are various car parks in Bakewell, if you're driving please feel free to offer lifts in the Meetup comments! We will aim for the 16:15 bus to return, however the buses are every 30 minutes so plenty of options.
