Full description:
This 4 mile linear afternoon walk starts at the Shalesmoor tram stop. We walk through Kelham Island and ascend via Pitsmoor Road Open Space to arrive at Parkwood Springs and then walking through Parkwood Springs for most of the walk. Here we will have views across the valley (weather permitting). After that, we descend through Wardsend Cemetery then along some roads to Hillsborough Park, and through the park to the Leppings Lane tram stop. From there can get a tram back to the starting point.
BUT, if you would like to walk for another mile (with about 80 meters of ascent) and also listen to some singing and folk music you can (if you choose) walk to Wadsley for the ‘Wadsley Wassail’ which is organised by the Wadsley and Loxley Commoners (a local conservation group, link below). Depending on the weather this will be either on Wadsley Common or in the Rose & Crown pub. It starts at 2pm but we will probably get there after 2:30pm.

NOTE: This is a linear walk and we won’t be returning to the starting point, but you can get back to the starting point from the tram at Leppings Lane tram stop. Or, if you continue to Wadsley, there are bus stops 5 minutes from the Rose & Crown pub.
Public transport or car sharing options:
The Blue and Yellow route trams go to the Shalesmoor tram stop. The 57, 81, 82 and 86 buses all stop at the Penistone Road / St. Phillips Road junction, a few minutes walk from the start.
