Full description:
Join us on the second stage of a 3-part walk along the Steel Cotton Rail Trail from Hope to back towards Sheffield, collecting walkers along the way in true Pied Piper style. This part begins at Hathersage in the Plough Inn where the walkers from the first part will be gathered for refreshments. Following the River Derwent downstream we plan to stop for refreshments at the Grindleford Station Cafe.
All the early birds joining us on Part 1 of this walk are automatically invited to stay for Part 2 and 3 (without signing up again). Everyone joining for Part 2 is also automatically invited to Part 3 which brings us eventually to Dore and Totley Station.
Alternatively, you may choose to catch the train back from Grindleford where this second part ends.
Pied Piper-related props and fancy dress encouraged! Please make sure to bring waterproofs and wear sensible shoes. It can get very muddy in the valley and the weather is particularly changeable at this time of year!
If you are joining us for Part 3 please bring a working headtorch as there is a chance we may be walking shortly after sunset!
See https://peakdistrictbytrain.org/the-steel-cotton-rail-trail/ for more route information on the route.
Public transport or car sharing options: We strongly suggest that you travel by train for this linear walk. The 11:14 to Manchester Piccadilly calls at Dore and Totley at 11:21 and arrives in Hathersage at 11:32 leaving enough time to make the short walk to the Plough Inn to join the walkers from Part 1 of the Pied Piper walk. There may even be time for pre-walk refreshments.
