  2. Let them know how you intend to get to the start; this will help ensure we have enough car-shares.

Bimble around Chatsworth

A1 (3 miles): A short walk around the grounds of Chatsworth over open moorland with little or no footpaths to follow and much rough ground. The walk will take in the coffee shop attached to the house on route.

This walk is only suitable for off road buggies and individuals that are taking children that can walk or can be carried in some type of back pack.

Shutlingsloe Shenanigans
B2 (11 miles): We head south out of Macclesfield Forest, on to Shutlingsloe and down the valley near Wildboarclough. A bit of a climb out of the valley on to the moors south of Cat & Fiddle (possible pub stop) before ascending Shining Tor and then dropping back to Lamaload.

Happy Howden Hobble

C3 (17 miles): An epic walk taking in a mostly high level route above and around Howden, Derwent and Ladybower reservoirs. From Heatherdene we cross the Ashopton viaduct and then up Crook Hill, across Bridge-End and Rowlee Pastures to Alport Castles. For the brave there will be an added extra going up The Tower, while the rest can admire the view. Next we drop down to Howden Reservoir and along the waters edge on the Western side to Slippery Stones, then down the Eastern side to the top of Derwent Reservoir and Abbey Brook. We strike uphill again to Lost Lad, taking in the spectacular views from there, on to Derwent Edge before a final descent to the Ladybower Inn and a well deserved pint.

Roche Abbey Amble
A1 (8 miles): An exploration of rural Rotherham - yes it does exist! An easy stroll from St. John's Church in the village of Laughton En Le Morthen, crossing the crest of Slade Hills, through fields and woods to the impressive ruin of Roche Abbey. We return via the village of Firbeck.

The Worlds Smallest Stone Circle
A2 (3 miles): Park at Shillito Wood, head down the valley to Smeekley Bore, up across Greaves Piece to the Barbrook nature reserve, past the world's smallest stone circle and across Baslow Road back to Shillitoe Wood.

In The Company of Old Poets

A2 (7 miles): Get away from the summer Peak crowds with this walk to little known places. Our undulating walk heads first to Kelstedge, then up a couple of brooks to Uppertown, and across to Spiteminster. Return past Press Reservoirs to see whether Old Poets really can brew a decent pint in their Corner back in Ashover.

Kinder Western Edges
B2 (11 miles): This walk takes us from Hayfield up past Kinder Reservoir and the edges of Kinder before south along the Pennine Way to Kinder Downfall and Edale Cross. We then descend to Hayfield via Coldwell Clough. A great walk with views across to the western peaks.

Stanage Anniversary Walk

A1 (7 miles): As always, an absolute doddle - we get off the bus at Moscar Lodge and bimble along Stanage with its great views of the Peak District. Hopefully ice creams at Burbage Bridge before the amble down Burbage Rocks to Fox House for many anniversary pints.

Catch 11:10 am bus number 273 from Sheffield Interchange (please check website for changes nearer the time).

Holmesfield Woods and Barbeque

A1 (5 miles): We wander through several local woods before retiring to Stefan's caravan for a barbecue. Food and drink provided. Places are limited to 10 people on this walk.

Up Hill, Cross Moor and Down Dale
C2 (14 miles): A circuit passing through fields, woods and up onto the moors to walk the length of Derwent Edge taking in the Cakes of Bread and the Salt Cellar, returning via Boots Folly and Dale Dike Reservoir.

Walking to Wensley Dale
B2 (10 miles): A very gentle start following the Derwent Valley Heritage Way from Rowsley to Darley Dale. At Darley Bridge we leave the Way and wander, all too briefly, through Wensley Dale (cracking toast, Grommit!) before starting back over Stanton Moor, taking in the Nine Ladies stone circle (and possible pub stop in Stanton in Peak) on the way back to Rowsley.

Grindon and Throwley Moor: the return

A2 (8 miles): A route from Grindon which takes in verdant green lanes, the heights of Throwley Moor, the spectacular limestone valley of the River Manifold and a return back to the picturesque village of Grindon.
Our route passes by Ossam's Hill farm which sells their own organic beef and lamb; worth phoning in advance to check what they will have for sale.

Shining Cliff and Whatstandwell

A2 (7 miles): A nice walk through a bit of countryside we have never yet visited. The path takes us through the ancient Shining Cliff woodlands (including the tree which was the source of the 'Rock-a-bye baby' nursery rhyme), out over the Watergate fields and down to Whatstandwell for a pint at the Derwent Hotel. The way back is along the Cromford Canal, long disused and now a rich aquatic habitat where we might spot water shrews or grass snakes among the wildlife.

  Sunday 26th July
Pennine Way Plod
B3 (9 miles): From the summit of the Snake Pass, we walk a short distance along the Pennine Way then turn off on to the Doctors Gate path. Crossing the river we head up off the main path via Little Clough to Dowstone Clough then cross the moor towards Torside Castle. From here we join the Pennine Way past Bleaklow Head and back to the cars.

Beeley Wood and the Birley Stone
A2 (4 miles): Starting by the River Don and climbing up into Beeley Woods to reach Birley Edge, cutting back down through the woods to the Middlewood Tavern.

Glenridding, Lake District
Yes, we're going back to the Bury Outdoor Pursuits Centre in the Lakes. Overlooking Ullswater with the village of Glenridding a mile below, it's a great spot for walking with Helvellyn accessible right behind us, lakeside walking and boat rides in front, and many of the other Eastern fells within walking distance of our front door.
And don't let the low price fool you - it's a fully furnished and equipped hostel which got glowing reviews last time we stayed there.

Robin Hood's Expedition
A2 (4 miles): Park at the public car park next to the Robin Hood, Baslow, cross the road and head along Chatsworth Edge to the Stand Wood at the back of the House. Come down through the wood to Queen Mary's Bower, back up the river to Baslow and then skirt the park back to the Robin Hood

C3 (20 miles): Starting at the public car park in Hope, we climb Win Hill and then walk to Ringing Roger, along Kinder edge to the top of Jacob's Ladder, Brown Knoll, Rushup Edge, Mam Tor, Hollins Cross, Lose Hill and back to Hope.

Pools Cavern Buxton
B2 (10 miles): We head off down Bishops lane then climb up over to the Goyt Valley then down and along Errwood reservoir. We then go back up over the moor and off to Solomons Temple before heading back down to the car park.

Wharncliffe Side to High Bradfield
A2 (5 miles): A longish linear evening walk starting out in the Victorian Glen Howe park, climbing up onto Spout Hill, along to White Lee Moor and following below Rocher Edge to High Bradfield. We will be returning from High Bradfield by bus.

Holymoorside and Somersall
A1 (6.5 miles): Meeting at The Lamb pub, Holymoorside. Walking along Loads Road, past Old Star Cottage (formerly 'Old Star Inn') cutting across Holy Moor and onto the Dye Works Yard where the village's second Cotton Mill existed. Onto the village duck pond then past the site of the Main Mill, cutting through Tin Wood crossing over the river Hipper. Along Pocknedge Lane (a lane at least 600 yrs old) crossing the A619 (with care) walking through fields towards Old Brampton then back across the A619 to Somersall heading back to Holymoorside by walking along the banks of the river Hipper. Meeting back at the pub for drinks and or food :)

Roger's Revenge
C3 (20 miles): From Cut-Throat Bridge head north-east and then down and around Dale Dike Reservoir, up past Strines Reservoir and onto Back Tor/Lost Lad and down to Derwent Reservoir and Fairholmes (refreshments!). Then up and over Hagg Side to the A57 and up onto the north edge of Kinder and then over to Win Hill. Steep descent down to Ladybower, across the front of the dam and back to the cars (with a drinks stop at Ladybower Inn).

  Sunday 16th August
Two Peaks of Mam Tor
C3 (15.5 miles): Starting in Castleton we proceed up Cave Dale before making our first ascent of Mam Tor. At Hollins cross we drop into Hope Valley, going via Edale, to ascend Grindsbrook Clough to the other side of the valley. We then walk along the top before climbing down Jacobs Ladder, go through Barber Booth and re-ascend back to the other side via Chapel Gate track. At this point we make our second and final assault on Mam Tor before descending back to Castleton.

Holmesfield to Holmebrook

B1 (10 miles): A saunter through the villages, woods and fields south of Sheffield, starting from Holmesfield and visiting Unthank, Millthorpe, Moorhall along the way; then turning down past the Linacre reservoirs and through the Holmebrook valley all the way into Chesterfield for a pint or two before the train home.

Rivelin Dams to Rivelin Inn
A2 (7 miles): Starting at the Lodge Moor bus terminus, we walk PAST the Sportsman pub and start a nice bimble through the woods overlooking Rivelin Dams, before we cross the dam (and the road) for a gentle ascent to Rails. From there we walk back down into Rivelin Valley, along the river until we hit the Coppice Farm Shop and the Rivelin Inn. There, we stop for a swift pint before the last leg into Stannington to catch a bus back into town.

Note that we are catching the number 51 bus to the walk start after meeting at the University car park.

Summer Stroll Around Chatsworth
A1 (7 miles): From the east side of Baslow we walk into Chatsworth Park and towards the house. We climb up into the woods at to the east of house, eventually emerging from the woods to find views of the hills south of Chatsworth. We then drop down the hill to the River Derwent, and follow the river back through Chatsworth Park finishing back at Baslow.

Fabulous Flagg

A1 (7 miles): Starting on The High Peak Trail before crossing over fields to the pretty village of Monyash. Returning along part of The Limestone Way to Flagg.

  18th-20th September
Dolgoch
A proper remote getaway this one, to the YHA's Dolgoch bunkhouse in the Tywi Valley, mid-Wales. There is no electricity, the lighting is by gas and the only heating is an open fire - a proper back-to-basics hostelling experience with not even a pub or a shop nearby. Out in this remote region we'll be surrounded by great walking country, all hills and forests (particularly good for bird-spotting we're told).

  9th-11th October
Alton Castle, Staffordshire
The bunkhouse is a restored stable block belonging to Alton Castle Situated in the heart of the Staffordshire counrtyside. The stables are a short distance from the Castle which is a Gothic style grade one listed building surrounded by 43 acres of fields, woodlands and the Churnet river. Alton Towers theme park is only a few minutes walk away. The local pub is owned by the manager of The Stables and comes highly recommended. There is the option of a visit to Alton Towers theme park on the Sunday. Keep a look out for 2 for 1 vouchers over the summer!

Pillows and pillow cases provided, cooking facilities available. Bring your own sleeping bags or quilt.
