General Information
The small print, but important, so please read.
Mailing List
As a member of the group, you will receive the group's programmes periodically by post. We also have an email list for group members, which we use to announce details of events, as well as last-minute alterations.
You can subscribe or unsubscribe at the list information page.
Message Board
The SWG have our very own online message board! You can find it at:
http://sheffieldwg.proboards.com/
You can register on the board, and then post messages to the rest of the group. Most of the group have signed up. So far threads have included party invitations, gear for sale, plugs for websites, pleas for information, houses for sale (!) and general malarkey. The board will have a number of uses - a chance for people who have left to keep in touch, or a chance for anyone who wants to look for lifts to weekends away, or who has questions about walks or socials.
Note that the board is currently open for anyone to sign up to, not just SWG members. We have tried to colour code member names on the board to help you identify who is and isn't a member: green for committee members, cyan for known members, blue for non members/unknown membership status. Our membership information isn't always up to date, so if you'd like to change from dark to light blue, drop us an email with your name and membership number.
Please use the board - it's there for you lot, but do try to limit the libellous abuse to a decent minimum. Some rules for the board:
- no abuse
- no personal comments
- don't use the board to organise an unofficial event that clashes with an official one without discussing with the committee/event organiser first
- no advertising on the board (except for members or causes deemed worthy)
- no signing up with multiple user names
- be cautious about putting personal details on the message board
- use your common sense.
Change of Address
The list of current members is held by the Ramblers' Head Office only i.e. not by our own group committee. Therefore, if you move house you need to inform the Ramblers themselves of your new address. To do this, fill in the form at http://www.ramblers.co.uk/mailforms/membermail.php, making sure to tick the box at the bottom of the form to remain in your current group.
To change your email address on the mailing list, follow the instructions above to subscribe your new address to the mailing list and unsubscribe the old one.
Liability
We're sorry but in this increasingly litigious world, we need to make some issues clear. We make every effort to ensure that our walks are safe and enjoyable but by the very nature of walking, it is not risk free and sometimes the unexpected arises. Participation is at your own risk and you are responsible for your own safety. In particular you are responsible for ensuring that you are fit enough to undertake the walk at the grade described and that you have adequate food, equipment and first aid with you.
All our walk leaders are members of the group who volunteer their services. Although they are competent hill walkers, they have no special training. They will often be familiar with the area walked but the group likes to venture into areas we've not walked before, particularly on weekends away, so the leader will not always know the area. Please note that the leaders do not carry spare food or equipment.
Refund Policy
In General:
No refunds will be given unless someone else can be found to take your place
Detail:
- As soon as you book an on event (by informing the organiser or a committee member that you wish to do so), you are liable for any cost associated.
- No refunds will be given for events that require payment (e.g. weekends away, theatre socials etc) unless someone else can be found to take your place.
- If you can no longer attend:
- you should inform the event organiser as soon as possible
- it is up to the event organiser to decide who should try to find a replacement (i.e. you or them). Note that in some circumstances there will be restrictions (e.g. weekends away are only open to members, sometimes there will be a reserve list which must be worked through in order first, etc)
- If no replacement can be found, you will still be liable for the cost, even if you haven't already paid
- If a replacement is found, it will be your responsibility to seek a refund from them
The reason for all of this is to prevent the group from making a loss; we often have to charge for events in advance and often cannot change the numbers once booked.
Privacy Policy
In summary: We don't hold very much, we only use it as necessary, and we keep it confidential. For the full details see the privacy policy.
