Twin Peaks: Win Hill, Lose Hill... and then some

13th July 2003: What a day: baking hot sun and 5 or 6 pubs to choose from. We started by climbing to the top of Win Hill where fantastic views of Ladybower just opened up - we basked in the sun's rays for a brief moment.

Curiously we turned back towards Hope; back in the valley we stopped on a quiet bridge just metres from a pub and Andrew asked if everyone was okay. You had 2 options: Go to the pub or climb to the top of Lose Hill. We all opted for the latter. The slog up the hill was intensified by the heat. But the rewards were fantastic - 360 degree views from some of Derbyshire's best peaks - Back Tor, Hollins Cross and Mam Tor.

We stopped for lunch; our wallowing in the sun only being interrupted by the odd sheep looking through your bag for its lunch.

Struggling to move from our dormant state, people started to move, reapplying lashings of suncream for that bronzed look, or lobster look in my case.

We set off across the tops towards Mam Tor in search of an ice-cream van, none were to be seen so we stepped up the tempo and staggered into Edale for a thirst quenching pint or two.

Our stop was short-lived becase our train was due, we all rushed to the station except Andrew who disappeared to fetch him and Cathy an ice-cream. A tannoy announcement went out: Train arriving at platform 1 - would Andrew make it back in time or would Cathy leave Andrew holding the ice-creams!!!

We boarded the train, with only one stop to go we were all thinking how would the ticket inspector get to us in time? We heard screams of pain come from the far seat HOW MUCH 1.85 James couldn't believe it. We sat there still trying not to be noticed, but the ticket inspector said that'll be 3.70, minutes later the train stopped. The front carriage emptied quickly, the inspector laughed as the non-payers made a fast getaway along the station platform.

Thanks for a fantastic day

Pete
