5th January 2003: On a particularly crisp and icy day, a large group of 25 turned out to walk off the excesses of the festive season. On arriving in Eyam, it seemed everyone else from far and wide was intent on the same thing: The Leicester and Rutland Group were also setting off on their walk from the same Eyam car park - doing practically the same walk (we bumped into them later).
The walk went via Foolow to Great Hucklow, then to Bretton and the oh so very comfortable pub The Barrel Inn. Somehow Cathy (leading the walk) managed to inspire everyone not to spend the rest of the day there, and we continued, enjoying some amazing scenery around Eyam Moor, with very striking skies and light, particularly as it approached dusk, which is about when we got back to Eyam. Strangely, at the end of the walk, there was one more person than when we'd begun; the hills work a strange magic.
